First Escape, Vienna

Just another room escape game? Well, yes. Kinda. But in so many ways different. Even though we had high expectations about that place, we were not disappointed. It was a sunny sunday evening a few weeks ago when we first tried our luck there and ever since are planning to come back. And here’s why:

First Escape opened last year, I think it was November or December 2017. So it’s still kinda new and as it’s in the first district, it’s rather fancy. The basic outline is like at every escape game: You’re locked in a room and have to get out of it within 60 minutes by solving riddles and finding hints. Unlike at other games though there are no padlocks and almost no codes or keys to find. Most of it works by touching or moving things. So after a short introduction to the ways the game works at First Escape, we played “Hotel Room 13”. The story behind it is not too elaborated and I kinda forgot it the moment we were let into the room, but it’s also not relevant for the gameplay.

The room itself was top notch. The creators definitely put a lot of thought into the design and decoration of it. We had a lot of fun solving the mystery evolving around a little ghost girl in there and managed to get out in time – even though we needed some hints and couldn’t do it all on our own. The staff was helpful but also made sure that we used our little brain cells as well. I was impressed by the detailed outfit of the room and am sure that I’ll come back soon. It’s a bit more expensive than other escape games in Vienna though, but I feel like it was totally worth it.
